Spring Break PR Plan
When college students think of spring break, they think of going to the beach, partying with friends, playing volleyball on the beach, feeling the sunshine on their skin, getting a tan, slipping into their flip-flops and finally getting a long-awaited break from school.
For those of us who are graduating in May, this can be a time of relaxation or a time to be super productive and accomplish some goals.
I’m choosing the latter for this spring break, as I know I will be heading out into the real world this May. #scary
For the Public Relations major, your online presence is super important. My online portfolio and resume need some updating, so why not update my portfolio and resume during spring break?
Freedom from classes two months before graduation=perfect time to work on the resume and portfolio.
Complete my online resume and online portfolio
Increase number of HTML pages on website from 14 pages to 43 pages.
Increase loading speed of home page from ten seconds to three seconds.
Take published stories/pitches ratio in WordPress from 15 published stories/ 6 pitches pitches to 24 published stories/0 pitches.
Decrease glitches on website to 0%.
Update resume with one new experience.
Take my laptop and flash drive with me to Birmingham, because having my laptop with Notepad ++, FileZilla and the flash drive that contains all of my HTML files will allow me to work on my online resume and portfolio.
Find a different hosting site so that I can increase the loading speed of my home page, because I do not want potential employers to close out of my website because the home page loads too slowly.
Use corrected content from classes, so that I can publish the pitches saved in my blog.
Search for open tags or conflicting language in my HTML files, so that I can eliminate glitches.
Identify what content to include in the description of my new experience that I am including on my resume, so that I can gain the attention of future employers.
Pack my laptop, laptop charger and flash drive the night before I leave to go to Birmingham.
Create HTML pages for feature stories, media kits, case analyses, spot briefs and study abroad essays.
Create HTML pages for each feature story, media kit, case analysis, spot brief and study abroad essay.
Search on Google for a different hosting site.
Correct pitches saved in WordPress.
Close open tags in my HTML files.
Re-type conflicting language in my HTML files.
Type new experience into resume file.
Upload all files to FileZilla.
WHEN I’M FINALLY DONE:
Measuring the success of the goal
In order to measure the success of my main goal, which is to complete my online resume and online portfolio, I must use my PR plan while working toward completing the resume and portfolio.
Before starting the PR plan, I will print it. I will check off each objective, strategy and tactic as I go through the process of completing them.
After uploading all files to FileZilla, I must evaluate whether the objectives were reached, strategies were implemented and tactics were completed.
